Aelia, daughter of Pollux, legacy of Angitia Empty Aelia, daughter of Pollux, legacy of Angitia

Sun May 12, 2019 10:09 am
Name: Aelia (Roman naming conventions don't give more than one name to women, unless she has sisters)
Gender: Female
Age: 20 (physically)
Sexuality: Bisexual (leaning more towards women)

Personality: Practical, strategic, idealistic, with a love for freedom and adrenaline. She's skeptical and tends to poke at people a lot. Despite appearing unemotional at first, she jokes about everything to everyone and everywhere, even those who she's supposed to act formal around. She'll make fun of you in front of you and to you and you won't even know it. Since she's a very outdoorsy person, she's a great travel buddy and makes killer campfire meals. Overall, Aelia loves activity and challenges, but at heart she's peaceful and compassionate. Overall she's courageous and bold, intuitive, decisive, and very direct. People-reader with strong opinions.
Flaws (three or more):
- excess bravado
- unthinking
- does cringey things on purpose
Eye color: Greenish
Hair description: Black, wavy, usually short. Quite unkempt, most often held back by a SPQR bandana.
Height: 1m70
Skin tone: Olive
Ethnicity: Caucasian: Mediterranean
Body structure: Muscular, a little bulky but small frame. Thin layer of fat. (She's fit, but not body-builder ripped)
Other details?:
- Tattoos on her arms and shoulders in Oscan and Etruscan (acquired recently)
- A tattoo of the Legio III Augusta on her biceps. (it reads Leg III AVG, and underneath that a Pegasus, the symbol of the legion. It's on the arm not carrying the Legio XII tattoo) (also acquired recently, shortly after getting her Legio XII tattoo)
- A bronze amulet inscribed with Oscan words. It's a gift from her mortal father, she always has it around her neck. (The only item she still has from Antiquity)
- She doesn't shave, so bushy armpits, hairy legs, etc.
- She's not particularly pretty or particularly ugly. What stands out is her angular jaw, strong eyebrows and thin smile.

Place of Birth (city, state, country): A Roman fort in Lycia, Anatolia.
Mortal Parent: Decius Aelius Strabo, son of Angitia. He was Italian, from an Oscan and Marsi family.
God Parent: Pollux, god of horsemanship, travellers and sailors. Patron of athletic contests.
Legacy of: Angitia, goddess of snakes, magic and healing.
Abilities (doesn't use energy to do):
- Speaking to snakes and horses
- Innate knowledge of medicinal herbs
- Affinity with athletics
- Always knew how to sail without really being taught
- Always knows exactly where she is, has spot-on orientation sense.
Powers (uses energy to do):
- Healing: Aelia can heal wounds. Small wounds  (scratches, minor scabs) take 1 post and 2  posts cool down, Medium wounds (stab wound, burn) take 2 posts & 4 posts cool down, large wounds (bone fractures, torn muscles) take 3 posts & 6 posts cool down.
- Speed/Strength boosts. She can double her speed and strength for 4 posts, x+2 posts cool down. She'll feel dizzy and weak-kneed afterwards.
- Snake-charming. Aelia can control snakes. Up to 5 snakes, 4 posts, x+2 posts cool down.
- Over-using her powers will make her nauseous and, if she pushes past her limits, vomit and/or pass out.

Pets (if any): None, but snakes often find her and hang out with her.

History (four sentences or more):
Aelia was born in AD 64 to Decius Aelius Strabo, a centurion of the Legio III Augusta. When she was 2, her father was stationed in Africa Proconsularis, then toured Greece a few years later before being stationed in Syria. Aelia saw a lot of the Roman provinces in her first ten years, travelling with her father's vexillatio. Her best memories are from the camp in Northern Africa, where she had some of the most peaceful moments of her life.
She enjoyed camp life a lot: she was friends with the other soldiers' kids and would play games and reenact mock battles with them. Her father wasn't the only Italic person in the fort, and thus she grew up in a group of fellow Oscans, Marsi and Etruscans, etc which became like her extended family. Decius had struck up a relationship with an Etruscan man, Vel, and soon they lived together with Vel's daughter Ravnthu. While Vel and his slaves taught her Etruscan culture and helped raising her, she learned from Decius how to fight. Her father had gradually given in to her demands and taught her how to use a gladius, a pilum, a verutum, a pugio, etc. He gave her lessons in tactics, strategy, leadership, economics, and siege warfare. She loved the cavalry sports (hippika gymnasia) and stole armour many times to be part of them.
Whilst a lot of the legionarii liked her and thought she was funny, her behaviour was considered improper by the legatus. She was forbidden from participating in any type of training, including the cavalry sports, which drove her mad.
Shortly after, the civil war broke out and her father was placed at the head of a vexillatio heading for Rome. He fought at Bedriacum, sacked Cremona and advanced on the capital. The rest was chaos: the Capitoline Hill was set on fire, an angry mob killed Sabinus, an all around bloodbath. Aelia had stayed behind, but she remembers to this day watching the smoke rise to the sky. After the disaster, Vespasian became emperor and Decius Aelius Strabo was allowed to take a prolonged permission, which he used to take his daughter first to his old hometown at Marruvium, before taking her down to the region around Vesuvius where his sister and uncle were living. His plan was to let her live with his sister in Stabiae for a while and let her either join a priesthood or find a husband.
That was without counting for the eruption in 79 AD.
Aelia was 16 years old. She was in a boat with her cousin Novius, rowing along the coast and pretending they were at the battle of Actium when the volcano erupted. As they looked on in shock, a strong wave tipped over their boat and Aelia was caught in the undertow. Carried away from the disaster, she washed up on the island of the Lotus Eaters. She stayed there until 2017, when she emerged back. After a brief visit to Lupa's House, she joined the Legion, where she's been 2 years now.

Cohort: 1st
Notes:
- Her Etruscan upbringing had a big impact, since women were at the center of the culture. Whilst she did live in the legion, the Etruscan soldiers still continued their traditions and Aelia was never considered a "2nd class person" by her family, contrarily to other women in those times.
- Aelia learned all the fortnite dances in the Lotus Casino. She dabs at her friends and, despite being an ancient centurion's kid, has the all around potential of a shitposting meme queen.
- She can speak Latin, plus the Italic languages Oscan and Etruscan. Because of her father's movements, she speaks a bit of ancient Greek and Syrian. Her father's family being partly Marsi, she understands that language too. That being said, she's totally forgotten Lycian safe for a song her slave used to sing to her as a child.
- She says "deívaí" (goddesses in Oscan) like people say "damn".

For Aelia's healing and speed/strength boost powers, how does their use physically affect her? Does it make her feel sick or dizzy; does excessive use cause her to pass out?

Other than that, the meme queen looks fine to me.

Looks good to me. However, how many posts does it take to heal small, medium and large wounds?
