Bess Reina Nakamura

Name: Your name is Elizabeth Reina Nakamura. When you were little people would call you Lizzie or Ellie. Except when you got older, your friends pressured you to go by Bess. So since then, you’ve gone by Bess.
Gender: Female
Age: You’re seventeen. Born on September 22nd, 2001. The funny thing about that day, most fall equinoxes occur on the 21st, but in this one year it occured on the day you were born.
Sexuality: You fit the B in LGBT.

Personality: So, there’s a party. The cool ones with the red solo cups and the beer pong and the terrible party music. Then, almost as if the red sea was parting, They arrive. The Queen Bs. The B3s. The Bitches. Them. Whatever people call them, it doesn’t matter, because they run this camp. Some people want to be them, others want to kill them. In the center is Berkeley Candela, daughter of Pluto. Stunning, terrifying, HBIC. Then, slightly behind her is Blair Marques, daughter of Neptune. Beautiful, intelligent, manipulative. Then, behind them, there’s you. Bess Nakamura, daughter of Jupiter. Pretty, sweet, pawn.

That’s always how it’s been. Berkeley, Blair, then you. Queen, knight, pawn. Maybe you’ll cross the board and become a queen, but only if you’re very very lucky. Chances are you’ll be sacrificed the minute you make a wrong move. You’ve always been aware of this. A pawn cannot win the game alone. You cannot win without them. At least, that’s what you’ve been told.

The minute you arrived at camp, you were supposed to be a nobody. You were shy and non threatening and quickly shuffled into the fourth cohort. Then, you were claimed. Suddenly everybody knew your name. Well, they didn’t really know your name until they scooped you up. You completed the set, so you were accepted. They made you change your name to something that fit them. Then, you were on the fast track to popularity.
You weren’t sure what to do with this power. So, you just followed their lead. You laughed at the people you were supposed to laugh at, you made bitchy comments, you became who they wanted you to be, terrified that they’d dump you the minute you disobeyed them.

Still, they give you power, and you have to admit, it is nice. Everyone treats you well. You’re a trendsetter, you’re listened to, and you like the attention. You like having friends. Sometimes you don’t mind being bitchy and mean.

To the rest of the world you’re ditsy, bitchy, and shallow. You were made to echo the words of those that rule.

Except they don’t get to see the real you.

The real you feels bad every time you tear someone down. The real you would rather watch High School Musical with your baby sister. The real you helps your mom cook for your now very large family. The real you wants to spend every free moment dancing. Yet, the real you still goes along with their plans.

So, Bess Nakamura. Who are you without them?

In all honesty? You’re not sure.

Flaws: See above.
Eye color: Dark brown.
Hair description: Black. Long and straight and silky. People would kill for your hair.
Height: 5’3”
Skin tone: Tan
Ethnicity: Japanese-American.
Body structure: You’ve got a dancers body. Not a lot of curves, but surprisingly strong.

Place of Birth: San Francisco, California, USA.
Mortal Parent: Jessica Kaori Mercer-Nakamura. Your mother. She’s a personal stylist. She dresses the rich and famous of San Francisco, which is how she got your father’s attention. Twice. She’s a loving mother, always present, and she’s almost like one of your best friends.
Other Family: Madeline “Mads” Hana Nakamura. Your baby sister. She’s just twelve and recently joined the legion. She’s almost a tomboy, but she doesn’t dress like one. She’s kind of annoying sometimes, but you adore her. Nicholas Mercer-Nakamura. Your step-father. He’s a demigod of Pax. He’s kinda nerdy and a little oblivious sometimes, but he makes your mom happy. He’s a chemistry professor at NRU. Andrew Mercer. Your step-brother. He’s twenty two so he goes to NRU. He’s pretty popular, you knew him before your parents got together. Charlotte “Charlie” Mercer. Your step-sister. She’s sixteen and she doesn’t subscribe to any of those popularity things. She’s kind of a rebel that way. You think she’s pretty cool when she’s not calling you a puppet.

God Parent: Jupiter. King of the gods. Commands thunder and lightning. Your dad. You’ve read the stories about him, you know how he can be. Boundaries really weren’t something he respected. You’re just happy that he stays out of your life. It’s easier that way.
Abilities:
⚡ You can’t be electrocuted. The currents just kinda flow through you. This also means you can’t be shocked. It’s kind of a party trick really.
⚡ You can make little balls of electricity about 0.5 inches in diameter. This can be used to light up a small space or light up a pathway. But if anyone touches them they’ll get a little shock and the ball will disappear.
⚡ You’re constantly shocking people with static electricity. You have a little control over it and sometimes you can do it on purpose, or you can suppress it.
⚡ When you’re angry sometimes the sky rumbles. It’s pretty spooky. This only really works if there are clouds out though.
Powers:
⚡ You have some powers over controlling the air. One way this manifests is by allowing you to almost fly. You can use it up to 12 posts per thread, but the longest you can maintain a lift is about 8 posts. You kinda just use it in short bursts to get more air when you’re dancing. Is it cheating? Who’s to say.
You can shoot blasts of air at people, almost like an air cannon. Sometimes they can be harmless, but other times if they’re super compressed they can do some serious damage. You can do this 10 posts per thread with a post cooldown.
⚡ You can purify the air by separating the air molecules. This has proved to be helpful when a boy from cohort 5 threw a stink bomb in the barracks once. You can do this to a max area of 100ft3. You’re prone to migraines after the fact. You can do this twice per topic with a 5 post cooldown.
⚡ This is a power you’re not even aware you have, and doing it will probably lead to disastrous consequences. For thirty seconds, you can remove the air in a location with a size of about 50ft3. This will always lead to a severe migraine that makes you feel like your head is going to explode. You can only use this once per topic.
⚡ You can summon an honest to god EF-2 tornado. It’s not very large, probably about 5 feet in diameter and 10 feet tall. Its strong enough to pick up lighter things and hurl them pretty forcefully. It can also knock over some rickety structures. This lasts about 5 posts, with the first and last post as a lead up and lead out for the strength. You can only do this once per topic.
⚡ You can mess with the temperature in a given area. The distance is about 20 yards radius with you at the center. You can only move it within 5 degrees of the current temp. You can do this for up to eight posts in a topic, and you can either put them all together for one long change or do eight short little ones or any combination thereof.
⚡ You have the ability to summon bolts of lightning. They do some damage, depending on how big you make them. They can grow up to a foot and a half long. The bigger they are the more energy they require. You can do this three times per topic, and you can hurl them at people or monsters.
⚡ You can summon a rainstorm, thunderstorm, or any kind of similar weather. The severity of which depends on how you’re feeling or your energy level. It starts by creating low hanging clouds in a 20 yard radius centered on you. Then you have the option to summon rain, a thunderstorm, etc. You can do this for up to eight posts in a topic, and you can either put them all together for one long storm or do eight short little ones or any combination thereof.

Pets: None, though your sister really wants a dog.

History: So, here’s how your story starts. Its September 22nd, 2001. San Francisco, California. Your mom is giving birth alone. There’s no one to hold her hand, no one to help her through it. Just a nurse trying her best to make your mother stay calm. She’s cursing your dad out for not being there. Then, you’re born. Little did you know that halfway across the world two other baby girls were being born under similar circumstances. Is it fate? You’re not really sure.

It’s just you and your mom for a while. Her business is really picking up, but that doesn’t mean she can’t make time for you. So, she takes you along. You sit next to her in the little seating area outside the changing room in your mother’s business. All the while beautiful and rich women try on the clothes your mother picked out for them. She’s always had an eye for fashion. She made you the best dressed three year old in the country.

Then, he comes back. He wears pinstripe suits and smells like thunderstorms and he gives you sour candy. There’s something about him, the way he radiates power like that moment right before lightning hits, where you can feel your hair standing on end and the weight of whats to come. Thats how Madeline came about. You had always wanted a sister, and now you got one.

Your mother wasn’t alone this time. She had you. You sat next to her and held her hand as your baby sister was brought into the world. You were only five, and you weren’t fully aware what was happening, but then there she was. She was tiny and kinda gross but you loved her. Then, it became Mama, Madeline, and you. It was perfect.

Your mama always tried to get you into things. She signed you up for every single activity she could think of. Gymnastics, ice skating, rock climbing, soccer, softball, piano, the list goes on and on. Then, at the ripe old age of four, you found your calling. Ballet. You loved the music, the dancing, the way they came together. You hated leaving the class, and would occasionally cry when the end neared. You just wanted to dance all the time. So you did. You got really good. By the time you were twelve and on pointe, you started getting auditions for joffery and the jko school. You attended their summer intensives, but you always returned home to study at the San Francisco Ballet School. By the age of 14 you were seen as a rising star, destined for great things.

When you were 14, the wolves appeared on your doorstep, looking for you and Madeline. She was only 9, but things were getting difficult. You had already had ten close calls in the span of four months. It was time for you to leave the real world. So you did. You learned and you fought for you and your sister, and you made it into camp. You didn’t have any recommendations to offer, except your father’s name. He claimed both you and Madeline the second you stood before the Praetors. So, they put you in fourth. Thats where you met them.

You were the last to arrive, with Blair only beating you by three weeks. They didn’t seem like the kind of girls you would associate with, you were used to prima ballerinas, but these girls were something even more intense. Except you completed their set. So, they didn’t really give you a choice. The first thing they told you was that you couldn’t go by Lizzie anymore. It would be Bess from here on out, because it let you fit in with them. So, you bent to their will. You did what they said, you backed them up, and then before you knew it, you were one of them. Thus began the reign of the Queen Bs.

Your baby sister was still too young to join the legion, so your mom relocates to New Rome. The property was cheaper than San Fran anyways, and she gets a beautiful home and you can see her every weekend. Then something happens. You come home one day and there’s a man there sitting at the kitchen table with her. They’re laughing and you’re pretty sure mama is flirting with him. He’s Nicholas Mercer. Before you know it, you’re standing at her side wearing a bridesmaids dress and you suddenly have two more siblings. Life is crazy that way. Suddenly your family is so much bigger, but you kind of like it. Sure, you don’t all get along, but when you do its kind of magical.

Your career advances as time goes on. Suddenly you’ve got a coach who was a former legionnaire, you’re attending ballet classes five days a week, and you’ve been invited to join their trainee program. You’ve been in the program for almost a year, and you’ve already danced on stage with the San Francisco Ballet, and everyone is asking you where you want to go next.

You’re still with the Queen Bs, and your power has grown beyond compare. You knock people down a peg, you laugh in their faces, and you feel kind of bad about it afterwards, but not bad enough to change a thing. Its easy being their friend in a way. You have power. You have friends. Even if they might betray you.

So, Bess Nakamura, is it worth it?

You don’t really know.
