New to camp

I stumble over the crest of the hill. Seeing a camp, or anything at all, makes me almost collapse in relief. I had barely survived the ogres that killed my family, and if I hadn't made it here by tonight, I probably would have died too. I walk to the nearest building and give my heartiest knock. I slide down the doorframe, passing out.

Chiron opened the door, expecting to see a hooligan demigod or the sort. Instead, he was surprised with an unconscious girl. He sighed, knowing this meant a new camper. Chiron went to get some Apollo kids, who took her to the nearby infirmary to clean and care for her. He stopped by later, wanting to talk to her when she gained consciousness.

I open my eyes, not with a flutter, but with a snap. I take a deep breath in, not knowing where I am. I let the breath out, relaxing a little. it looks like an infirmary of some sort. I think. Soon, the door opens and a centaur clops in... Okay... A little weird. No weirder than orges or demigods.

"Hi," Chiron spoke slowly and politely, "what is your name?"

"Um..." I don't know if I should tell him, but I do anyways. "Amber." I respond, honestly. I stick my now clean hand out for him to shake. Who washed me?

Chiron shook her hand. "Now, before you got to camp, what do you remember? Can you tell me what brought you here?"

I tear up. "My... My mother and little sister were... Murdered in front of me. My Mom said for me to come here." I say, struggling.

"I'm...I'm sorry," Chiron said, softly, holding her hand. "How old are you?"

"Seventeen. I'm seventeen." I say, thinking, Where's here?

"Seventeen. Dear gods, you were supposed to been here around four years ago..." he trailed off. "Anyway, welcome to Camp Half-Blood, youngling. This is a place for demigods, children of the Greek gods, to come and be safe from all danger."

I nod. "So... What does that mean? Am I a ... A demigod?" I'm curious to the answer.

"Yes. Your mother apparently had a...um, affair, with a god, or the like."

That doesn't shock me. She was a bit of... Well... A bit of a whore. "Yeah. That actually makes sense."

"Well, next is figuring out your parentage. We need to figure out who that god is. For now, get some rest. We'll show you to your cabin tomorrow, and get you situated in."

"Okay." I say, turning to my side to go to sleep.

The conk horn wakes me from my slumber. Feeling better, I get up and stretch. Mmm, good sleep. I think.

Moving about the empty infirmary, I look out the window and see people moving towards a... Campfire? I get up and exit the building, following them.

Chiron, the following morning, looked over at Amber with a smile. "Welcome to your first campfire. How was your rest in the infirmary?" he asked, leaning on his walking stick with his human arms. His scraggly beard rested on it, as he watched to make sure everyone was safe.

"Restfull." I say, sneaking a glance at his (wheelchair or legs). "What's the campfire about?" I ask. "Is it in celebration of something or just something you do every day?"

"We're just having one for fun, it occurs every few days or so. It typically is where a demigod will get claimed by their god parent, so it's a pretty great experience. Take a seat, I swear, you'll have fun. The campers here are friendly."

"Oookay." I draw out the O. "Where should I sit?" I ask, gesturing to the bleachers.

"Anywhere you want. Socialization is key."

I nod and sit next to a friendly looking Blonde, waving at her. "Hi, I'm Amber. What's your name?" I ask.

"Rachel." She sticks out her hand for me to shake, which I do.

"So... Anything I should know about the campfire?" I ask.

She shakes her head. "Just have fun!" She exclaims.

Chiron smiled as she socialized, leaning on his stick.

"So!" I rub my hands together. "When does the campfire get started?"

"When Chiron starts it."

I nod, loving the aspect of the camp that has one true leader.

Chiron went to the middle of the campfire area, and started his spiel about the power of demigods and what it truly means to be one. He hit his walking stick on the wood in the middle, and a fire erupted in the air, getting some sounds of surprise from the audience. "Everyone, please welcome our newest camper, Amber!" he said, pointing his stik at her.
